OCEANA RAIN STUART
About Oceana Rain Stuart
As an artist, my purpose is to find empathy in the work I create and to explore the tension and complexity of the subject matter. I’m fascinated by the subtle physical gestures, like the movement of a hand, the gaze of the eyes, as well as the contradictions that are enclosed in body language and how each face shares a lifetime of stories. Something powerful happens when we let our guard down - we become vulnerable, instinctively primitive and essentially raw and my passion is in expressing this through my work.
OCEANA RAIN STUART was born in California and is a realistic figurative sculpture artist. She currently lives with her three cats and works in the San Francisco Bay Area. Stuart grew up in a multi-generational artistic family in the US. She also lived in Europe as a young adult where she was inspired by many of the masters of the past as well as the present. At a young age, Stuart knew her life path was to create art herself.
Stuart considers herself to be a self-taught artist. She attended classes at the Art Institute of San Francisco, the Laguna College of Art and Design, and workshops with Anatomy Tools and Cicero D'Avila. Stuart also teaches figurative sculpture in her atelier.
Stuart explores emotionally evocative subject matter expressive of light and dark qualities of humanity often using symbolism as a metaphor. Her human forms appear to be in a state of conscious, subconscious and unconscious dreaming. Stuart’s unique molding techniques and surface treatments intuitively blend realism and surrealism.
Stuart has exhibited in group exhibitions in accredited museums internationally and in the U.S., such as The Louvre Museum, The Leonardo Da Vinci Society, The Natural History Museum in Los Angeles County, The National Sculpture Society, The Haggin Museum, The American Women Artists, The Salmagundi Art Club, The international Biennial of The Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art, The Catharine Lorillard Wolf Art Club, Allied Artists of America, and The California Art Club where she is a Jury elected Artist member.

Stuart was a recipient of the 2017 "Figurative Artist of the Year" award for her work "Eternal Embrace" by "Art Comes Alive" National Competition. Stuart was included in Buzzfeed's 2018 "One Hundred Artists-One Tribe" by Didi Menendez, and is also a member of Poets and Artists. Stuart was granted a four-page spread in the book, "Masters of Contemporary Fine Art" Vol. 3 by Pedro Boaventura of Art Galaxie. In 2018 Stuart was featured in Light Space and Time as "The Galleries Top 25 Artists to Watch" and in an interview in L'Italo Americano.
