About Fu Man Yat
A watercolorist in Hong Kong, lover of Music and Fine Arts since his childhood, once lived in Indonesia and China and graduated from Chinese University of Hong Kong with a bachelor’s (first honour ) and a master’s degree in Music. He currently engages himself in painting and art education, teaching watercolor courses in Chinese University of Hong Kong’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies (CUSCS). His works center upon everyday scenes of life and people. Through highlighting beauty in the ordinary, he wishes to tell his story and leave behind his footprints in the passing times.
Through the process of painting, he came to realize the musical aesthetics he had been steeped in over many years subtly finding ways to manifest itself. Fine arts and music have shared many commonalities, with western classical music placing emphasis on a balanced structure and representation while visual art on contrastive rhythms and an overall balance of unity. Exploring these commonalities, Fu finds he has nurtured many fresh insights, which over time become an inexhaustible source of creativity. His approach to creative works is inspired through every day scenarios, circumstances and people that strike him with a sense of beauty in his life, leaving his works a record of his lived experiences which he most cherishes.
