NADIA LAZIZI, MFA, BA (Hons Fine Art)
About Nadia Lazizi
"I have always used my work as a means of self discovery. Through my paintings I have explored my emotions and understanding of my place within the world. As a woman of mixed cultural inheritance the elements of reflection, ambivalence, catharsis and renewal are ever present aspects.
I seek to convey a sense of stillness and introspection in my paintings. To express an emotional, yet considered response to the world in which we live. An attempt to represent and capture a fleeting moment in time: a transient image of contemplation that is a combination of dreams and reality. Mood and atmosphere are carefully created through a restricted colour pallet and the deliberate juxtaposition of the central figure against an ambiguous background.
Although my work is grounded in realism, it is far too stylised to be considered entirely so. The paintings possess a contemporary tone which is influenced not only by classical fine artists of the Renaissance but also contemporary illustrators and photographers.
